Orange snow

It’s the last day of RSNA and it all starts happening. The snow storm is on its way north from Texas, while George Bush is in the Middle East. At Chicago O’Hare the security level has been raised to Orange. We get an earlier flight, beating the storm, and I get a free upgrade to business. In the First Class lounge the TV over the bar plays diet commercials fronted by Dan Marino aimed at guys with guts; while the news plays of an F-18 which has crashed somewhere in America. I spot two Israeli business people I saw at the stand and say hi but they ignore me. I overhear one airport worker’s radio transmission: “We’re working on that part.”

Wednesday

It’s Wednesday at RSNA. Went to the Sear’s Tower last night, which is the highest tower in the US. Interesting mural history of Chicago, though mysteriously nothing about the impact of Prohibition and the rise of organised crime under Al Capone. Guess that’s one best forgotten (though how about the lessons of Prohibition?). Even managed to see a mention of Lincoln Logs, which has got to be the most obscure cultural reference picked up in a Bill Hicks sketch which I’ll ever make..
